PUBG to Mobile? A compare to the console versions

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds known simply as PUBG, has been released on iOS and Android in the U.S., in Canada and other countries. Fans of both PC and Xbox versions can now download  for free the PUBG game directly to their phones and tablets.

When a live action trailer for PUBG mobile was released quickly went viral as the popular game has already astonished many players woldwide.

PUBG Mobile is free unlike the PC and console versions and  makes you earn not only BP but also Vitality which climbs as you complete special daily missions and EXP points.

PUBG‘s fans confirm that the work put in to make this as faithful to the console versions as possible has paid off. In other words you get the full PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds experience on a portable platform. PUBG Mobile looks great. The graphics are excellent, the frame-rates even more so, and the game doesn’t crash.  Although the menus have been adapted to be more mobile friendly,  the character creation screen and lobby stay as they are to PC players. The controls aren’t too complicated and the solo, duo, and squad modes are all supported.

The touch-screen controls work fine, with an option to access your inventory in the bottom-left corner. On the right hand side you have the options to crouch, stand, and go prone.

Using the default configuration, you move with a virtual control stick, using your other thumb on the right half of the screen to control your aim. You fire, aim down sights, crouch, go prone and access your backpack with virtual buttons on the right side of the screen. Once you’re comfortable with the layout, you’ll find you have access to all of the same actions as on the PC version, including leaning and free-looking.

According to Tencent PUBG Mobile you play the same game as on the PC and Xbox but players have noticed a difference in gunfights when you fire, and shoot all at once.  On mobile, the head-to-head battles tend to descend to two people mostly standing still as they fire at each other.

However, in the mobile version there is a feature that is liked by all the PUBG‘s fans. The auto-pick-up! This feature smartly collects weapons, ammo, attachments and healing items as you walk over them as well as auto-swaps lower-tier body armor, backpacks and helmets for higher-tier ones that you run near. On the console you need to manually organize your inventory, but on the mobile this process is automated with the option to completely disable it.

Also unlike the PC and console versions, the mobile version has a hit marker on the center of your screen indicating the direction you’ve been shot from, something famously left out from the consoles to force gamers to rely on sound queues.

According to Kotaku and The Verge, PUBG Mobile probably uses bots for the new players. Many gamers, have noticed  that many of the people you face off with in early matches are actually bots who all wear same shirts and play poorly giving you easy wins.

The Verge states:

major difference from the other versions is the presence of bots, apparently designed to help new players get to grips with the game. As you level up, the ratio of real players to bots increases…

Kotaku has reached out to Tencent and PUBG Corporation to confirm that this is what’s happening.

Although PUBG Mobile seems to follow the same tactical mechanics as on consoles the game might pose  a problem to the owners of phones with small screens, or of a low power as these devices can  impact the game’s quality and performance. Owners of phones with weaker internals might also struggle at long range, too. Fuzziness, blurring, and low-res textures tend to make spotting targets at a distance much tougher.

Overall it’s impressive what the publishers of PUBG mobile have been able to achieve. From good graphics and the user-friendly controls to some nice touches that we would love to see added to the console versions, it is a remarkable work.  Download PUBG Mobile and see for yourself. It is a good way to keep up with your game while you’re away from home.
